Why it matters

  • Pulsant has appointed Jon Arnold, formerly Executive Group Director for Sales and Strategic Accounts at Global Switch, as Chief Commercial Officer.
  • Arnold brings more than 25 years of experience, with prior senior roles at Volta Data Centres, Daisy Group, MCI Worldcom and Siemens.
  • CEO Rob Coupland cited rising UK demand for regionally distributed, AI-enabled digital infrastructure as the strategic driver behind the hire.

The story

UK digital infrastructure and data centre operator Pulsant has appointed Jon Arnold as its Chief Commercial Officer, bringing in a 25-year industry veteran from wholesale carrier-neutral provider Global Switch.

Arnold joins Pulsant from Global Switch, where he served as Executive Group Director for Sales and Strategic Accounts. His career spans senior leadership roles at Volta Data Centres, Daisy Group, MCI Worldcom and Siemens, covering data centres, digital infrastructure and enterprise technology.

In the new role, Arnold will oversee Pulsant's sales, commercial and client relationship functions, reporting into an executive team led by CEO Rob Coupland.

Arnold framed his move against the backdrop of a maturing UK data centre market. "The UK is one of the biggest data centre markets outside the US and Pulsant occupies a unique position within it, combining a UK-wide platform with deep regional presence and sovereign infrastructure," he said. "The company has built a compelling proposition for organisations seeking secure, connected and scalable digital infrastructure."

He also pointed to artificial intelligence as a demand driver for the company's regional footprint. "The market opportunity ahead is significant, particularly as AI adoption moves from experimentation to deployment," Arnold said. "I'm looking forward to joining the Pulsant team, meeting our clients and partners, and helping to accelerate the next phase of Pulsant's growth."

Coupland said the appointment strengthens the company's leadership at a point of rapid change in both the business and the sector. "He brings extensive experience of leading commercial teams across data centres and digital infrastructure, with a strong track record of building lasting client relationships and delivering growth," the CEO said.

The appointment signals where Pulsant sees its commercial focus heading. Coupland highlighted growing demand from UK businesses for distributed compute capacity rather than hyperscale-only deployments. "As businesses across the UK increasingly look to deploy AI-enabled services closer to their users and data, demand for secure, resilient and regionally distributed digital infrastructure continues to grow," he said. "His leadership and market expertise will help us build on the momentum we have created and support even more clients across the UK."

Pulsant has been expanding its regional edge footprint through acquisitions, including the purchase of two edge data centres from SCC. The CCO hire positions the company to monetise that expanded platform as AI workloads shift from pilot projects into production environments across UK regions.
