Why it matters

  • Keysight will demonstrate RF, 6G and AI test solutions at European Microwave Week 2026
  • The demos target advanced RF instrumentation, early 6G research tools and AI-driven measurement
  • 6G standardisation begins with 3GPP Release 20 study items, with commercial deployment expected around 2030

The story

Keysight Technologies will demonstrate its radio frequency, 6G and artificial intelligence test and measurement solutions at European Microwave Week 2026, the company has announced.

The announcement names three focus areas for the demonstration programme: advanced radio frequency instrumentation, early 6G research tools, and AI-driven measurement and analysis capabilities. European Microwave Week, held annually in the autumn, is the largest RF and microwave event of its kind in Europe, drawing test-equipment vendors, component makers and research institutes working on the radio layers of future mobile networks.

For Keysight, the venue is familiar ground. The company, formed from the 2014 spin-off of Agilent Technologies' electronic measurement business and now headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, supplies signal analysers, network emulators and channel-sounding equipment used by chipset developers, handset makers and operators to validate performance before products reach commercial networks. Its instruments sit in the labs where 5G radio specifications were turned into silicon, and the company is positioning the same workflow for the next generation.

The 6G demonstrations arrive as the technology's standardisation timeline begins to take shape. The 3GPP plans to open its first 6G study items in Release 20, with initial specifications expected later in the decade and commercial deployments projected around 2030. Research groups in Europe, East Asia and North America are testing candidate technologies including sub-terahertz spectra, ultra-wideband waveforms, joint communication and sensing, and AI-native air interfaces — all of which place new demands on test equipment in bandwidth, phase noise and signal-processing throughput.

That last dimension explains why AI appears alongside 6G in Keysight's demonstration plan. Vendor messaging around "AI-powered" instrumentation routinely promises faster calibration, anomaly detection in measurement data and automated test sequencing; buyers will judge these tools on measurable reductions in test time and engineering effort rather than on the label itself. What is certain is that AI workloads inside radio access networks — for channel estimation, beam management and energy saving — are already creating a parallel need to validate AI models themselves, a task that falls to instruments rather than spreadsheets.

The RF component of the showcase points to the continuing workhorse of the business: spectrum from sub-gigahertz frequencies through millimetre wave, where power amplifiers, filters and antennas for 5G-Advanced and satellite-linked direct-to-device services all require characterisation. European Microwave Week's audience of RF engineers remains the core constituency for this portfolio, whatever generational labels attach to it.

Commercially, test and measurement is a leading indicator for the mobile industry's investment cycle. Equipment vendors buy instruments before they build products, so an expanded demonstration presence at research-oriented events signals where Keysight expects R&D spending to concentrate in the second half of this decade — and, by extension, where 6G vendor competition is already forming.
