Why it matters

  • Reliance Jio launched a one-day truly unlimited 5G data pack priced at Rs 15
  • The pack is valid for 24 hours and available across all Indian telecom circles
  • Recharge channels include MyJio, Jio.com, retail POS, third-party platforms and enterprise portal
  • Target use cases include 4K streaming, low-latency gaming, cloud backups and hotspot tethering

The story

Reliance Jio has launched a one-day 5G data booster priced at Rs 15, giving Indian subscribers 24 hours of truly unlimited high-speed connectivity on the operator's True 5G network. The pack is live now across all of India's telecom circles and works around the daily speed throttling that normally kicks in when users exhaust their plan's data allowance.

The offering is a standalone data pack rather than a subscription plan, and it targets a specific commercial niche: power users who need a burst of guaranteed throughput for a day. Jio positions it for on-demand usage where a regular plan's fair-usage caps would get in the way.

What can Rs 15 of uncapped 5G actually do?

Jio spells out five use cases for the booster, all of which depend on sustained download speed and low latency rather than sheer data volume:

  • 4K video streaming — high-definition films and live sports without automatic drops in resolution
  • Low-latency mobile gaming — multiplayer sessions supported by ultra-low ping rates
  • Cloud backups — moving large device backups, work directories and full-resolution video archives to cloud storage in seconds
  • Hotspot tethering — turning a 5G handset into a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot for laptops and tablets, aimed at remote work and multi-participant video calls
  • Large downloads — big mobile games, OS installs, software patches and offline media libraries

The list reads like vendor marketing in places — "in seconds" for cloud backups is a claim, not a benchmark — but the underlying commercial logic is straightforward. Daily data caps are a persistent friction point for heavy users in India, and Rs 15 is a low-friction price to remove them for a day.

How do subscribers buy it?

Activation is instant across every channel Jio operates, according to the operator. The pack is available through:

  • The MyJio app and Jio.com
  • Reliance Retail and General Trade points of sale
  • Third-party recharge platforms
  • Enterprise Jio.com for business customers

The plan's formal parameters are simple: Rs 15 MRP, one-day (24-hour) validity, truly unlimited 5G data, applicable pan-India across all circles.

Why a 24-hour pack makes sense now

The launch fits the current state of India's 5G market. Jio and rival Bharti Airtel have rolled out 5G at scale since late 2022, and unlimited 5G data has already been bundled into many of Jio's larger postpaid and prepaid plans. What those bundles do not cover is the subscriber on a smaller plan, or the user whose daily allowance runs out mid-task.

A one-day pass effectively monetizes that gap. It works like a cinema ticket rather than a monthly subscription — pay only when the bandwidth is needed, whether that is for a live cricket match in 4K, a LAN party on a train, or a one-off multi-gigabyte backup before a device swap.

For Jio, the pack also deepens engagement with its True 5G network, which the operator has built on standalone 5G infrastructure in addition to its non-standalone layer. Short-duration boosters give the company a way to demonstrate peak network capability to subscribers who might otherwise never stress the connection beyond routine browsing.

The Rs 15 price point keeps the entry barrier near zero. At roughly the cost of a cup of roadside chai, the pack is an impulse purchase rather than a considered spend, which should drive trial among the operator's broad prepaid base.

Jio says the pack is available nationwide effective immediately, with no announced end date or promotional window, indicating a permanent addition to its data-pack lineup rather than a limited offer.
