Cable One Gets One-Week Extension to Close Mega Broadband Deal
Cable One's acquisition of the 55% of Mega Broadband Investment it doesn't own slips to Oct. 9 as the operator holds 'advanced discussions' on financing with GTCR.
Why it matters
- Cable One's acquisition of the 55% of Mega Broadband Investment it does not already own was delayed from Oct. 1 to Oct. 9, 2026.
- Cable One says it is in 'advanced discussions' on financing with investment firm GTCR, the seller of the 55% MBI stake.
- Cable One already owns the remaining 45% of MBI.
The story
Cable One now has until October 9 to close its acquisition of Mega Broadband Investment (MBI), after the deal's original deadline of October 1 passed without a completed transaction.
The Phoenix, Arizona-based cable operator disclosed the extension in a release issued Friday. The company also confirmed it is in "advanced discussions" on securing financing from investment firm GTCR — the same firm from which Cable One had agreed to acquire the 55 percent of MBI it does not already own.
The deal structure gives the delay its significance. Cable One already holds a 45 percent stake in MBI, and the pending transaction covers the remaining 55 percent held by GTCR. That leaves financing as the principal open item, and the company's decision to flag "advanced discussions" with GTCR itself indicates the buyer and seller are negotiating the terms of the funding that would let the transaction close.
A one-week extension is a short runway. It suggests both parties believe they can resolve the financing question quickly, but it also leaves little margin if those discussions stall. Cable One did not indicate in the release what happens if the new October 9 deadline passes without a deal, or whether further extensions are possible under the purchase agreement.
The timing puts the outcome squarely in view: either Cable One finalizes financing arrangements with GTCR within the week and takes full ownership of MBI, or the acquisition faces renewed uncertainty. The operator's next disclosure should clarify which path the deal has taken.
